Energy Efficient Landscape Lighting

December 18, 2007

Traditional landscape lighting used 120v current. A recent trend has moved to low voltage landscape lighting which uses significantly less energy. However, even a low voltage halogen lamp will consume at least 20 watts of power. With LED technology emerging as the leading innovation in energy efficient lighting home owners and businesses can even further reduce their energy consumption by switching to LED landscape lighting.

A traditional 20w MR-16 halogen landscape light can be replaced by a 5w or less LED lamp that will last for more than 60,000 hours compared to about 8,000 hours. So not only does the lamp consume 25% less power it will last nearly 7 times as long. The energy savings will add up over the lifetime of the lamp and the labor costs of replacing the lamps 7 or more times can be substantial for a large estate or commercial property.

LED landscape lights are suitable for most applications where halogen or standard incandescent lights are used.
